A curated time capsule of my favorite nightlife spots in San Francisco from 2024-2026. Check it out on Beli
1015 Folsom・Club・SOMA
The best club in San Francisco for a reasonable cover and quality talent. Three floors, each with a different DJ, and probably the best production of any club outside legitimate venues like The Midway and Bill Graham. Open very late. Very DJ dependent. Try Pura Saturdays for great Latin music. House/Dance.
Audio SF・Club・SOMA
Attracts reasonably good talent for a San Francisco club, though the ambiance falls short if you’ve spent time out in Los Angeles, New York, or Miami. Reasonable cover and great music, but very DJ dependent. House/Dance.
Halcyon・Club・SOMA
Great sound system and ambiance, though it can be dead depending on the artist. When it’s packed with a good DJ on deck, it’s really fun. Very DJ dependent. Usually techno.
Persona・Dancing Bar・Union Square
My favorite bar in the city. The menu takes cues from the erotic theatre it sits next to, and the cocktails are phenomenal. Great themed nights: jazz on Mondays, rotating live music on Wednesdays, and DJs on Fridays and Saturdays. Date-night vibe on weekdays, dancing on weekends. Music depends on the night.
Bar Part Time・Dancing Wine Bar・Mission
Really dark, amazing ambiance, with a live DJ always on hand. The wine is decent, but the music and ambiance more than make up for it. Music depends on the night, usually some form of house.
Bar Crenn・Cocktail Bar・The Marina
Amazing cocktails and a date-night ambiance with a really nice vibe. They have a huge record collection, with a vinyl player constantly spinning great music.
Sugar Lounge・Dive Bar・Hayes Valley
Best happy hour in the entire city. An iconic Hayes Valley establishment with great bartenders and so many regulars. One of one. Music depends on the night, but usually the bartender’s choice.
Balboa Cafe・Cocktail Bar・The Marina
Fun weekend vibe with good drinks and ambiance. Music depends on the night.
Monroe SF・Dancing Bar・North Beach
Go only for Decades on Fridays. Insane drink deals and a DJ rotating pop hits. The crowd skews very young, and cover starts after 11. Usually Pop, Hip-Hop, and R&B.
Westwood・Dancing Bar・The Marina
Crowd skews really young. They have a mechanical bull that’s pretty fun, and the music leans easygoing pop. That said, the music quality suffers since it’s a queue with no mixing.
Butter・Dancing Bar・SOMA Super crowded on the weekend but a fun vibe. Supposedly the place that popularized the vodka Red Bull. Music is mostly pop, but they usually have a good DJ on deck.
