Djon’s latest release Baby* can only be described as a bold reimagination of our current standards of r&b, soul, andindie rock. Although the album isn’t my cup of tea, I can’t help but admire the beauty of how well this interdisciplinary project lands. Tracks like HIGHER! really exemplify this sentiment with a chaotic blend of the best of genres that just works.
Tracks are reminicent of Bon Iver, and believibly so since Djon has collaborated with Ivor this year.
You also get beautiful, celestial, detailed moments throughout the project in songs like Yamaha and Baby! Yamaha feels chaotic, yet intimate executed perfectly with the adjacency of his soft, reaching vocals with the starry instrumentation that perfectly complements his voice.
