Throughout life, you will encounter various moments of realization that open your understanding that somethings will not work out the way that you want them to and that you have to accept. Although it is somewhat melancholic to list this out in this format, I think understanding and accepting this reality will allow you to pursue life with a little more appreciation. Warning, potential Existential Crisis inducing content ahead.

Things I have Accepted in Life

  • I will not visit every country on this planet.
  • I will not experience every culture that exists on this planet.
  • I will not be able to finish every single project that I want to.
  • I will always get older and time is always running out.
  • I will lose people that I care about.
  • Sometimes, I will not get the things that I want.
  • Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

After reading this, you might find yourself in a bit of a dread-inducing mindset. I think that is totally valid and I felt this way as well. I highly recommend looking into Optimistic Nihilism and using that as a framework for dealing with this and focusing life on the things that are important to you. I also think that for every thing that I have accepted in life, there is an equally optimistic outlook that redeems the dread inducing reality that I mentioned above.

Things I have Accepted in Life But Happier

  • I will get to visit the most beautiful countries on the planet.
  • I will get to experience a multitude of cultures that will expand my worldview and perspective.
  • I will finish many projects in life that influence and improve my community.
  • I will always get older and continuously appreciate life with more perspective.
  • I will get to spend time with wonderful people in this world.
  • Moments of difficulty will lead to greater appreciation for moments of joy.
  • Life is too short to worry about the future, mindfulness leads to the greatest form of satisfaction in life.
