Background / Issue Solved

There are a lot of Obsidian note taking frameworks out there such as the The PARA Method and frameworks that YouTuber’s promote like Obsidian Setup Guide - Odysseas. The issue is that when using Quartz, that might not be the best method for setting things up if you want something that other people can navigate at all. As such, I suppose having folder’s is somewhat fine.

Some people argue that it is difficult to navigate through things without folders and I fully agree. I think the main issue with the folders in the first place is that sometimes, it is hard to figure out where to place the note and that causes some fatigue and sometimes even slows down the process for writing notes in the first place. This is a form of Toxic Perfectionism and the solution to it is to straight up drag it into a random folder with at least the tiniest semblance of relatedness. The folders are there for others, we have search and the graph to actually traverse through our ideas.

Please Setup Quartz

Now to get to how to format the notes themselves in Obsidian. At this point I assume you have already setup Quartz. If not I recommend setting it up. I have a guide on how to do that in Quartz

Structure

SectionContent Description
00 Maps of ContentIndexes that groups content together.
01 ProjectsShort term things that have a due date or completion date.
02 AreasAn area of interest is similar to what it sounds, an broad area of interest that you can keep contributing towards for long periods of time. These are thing’s without any due dates. Consider things like computer science & city planning, as areas of interest.
03 Source MaterialSimilar to literature notes in Zettelkasten. Every time I consume any content, I upload the notes that I take here and it will either be further processed into my full notes section or remain here for reference.
04 Full NotesFull notes are processed pieces of quality writing that inherently hold value and do not regurgitate information that is already out on the internet.
05 FleetingThis is where all notes start. There should be < 10 things in this section at all times. The fleeting notes should be transformed to either Source Material or Full Notes. There are many ways to achieve Processing Notes efficiently.
06 ArchivesWhen content is stale, it goes to the archive section. This can be projects you stop working on, etc.
99 MetaAll materials / content that help with creating a vault.
